Environmental Sustainability and Sustainable Climate
Friday 2 July 2021

Arguably, the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement establish specific climate rights, and the right to a sustainable climate, in the broader context of the right to a sustainable environment, in the same way as the Convention to Combat Desertification and the Biodiversity Convention. How can this facilitate shaping the right to a sustainable climate as a non-derogable duty to achieve sustainability (possibly 1.5°C rather than 2°C)?

Ottavio Quirico, Associate Professor (ANUCES and UNE), intervened at the Conference ‘Global Governance and Ecological Integrity’ (Concordia University, Montreal, Canada) on the right to a sustainable environment and the right to a sustainable climate.
